Rutland Water

Originally named Empingham Reservoir and constructed between 1971 and 1975, Rutland Water is the largest reservoir in England (by surface area) and one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe.

Managed by Anglian Water the reservoir is also home to a wetland nature reserve, water sports centre, a 25 mile cycling and walking circuit, superb trout and coarse fishing, picnic areas, cafes, bicycle hire shops, a fishing lodge, visitors centre, a climbing wall and even its own beach. There are four large car parks located around the perimeter of this 4,200 acre site.
